With great enthusiasm, we are proud to share, for the first time, an unprecedented collaboration between the artist Pedro Cabrita Reis and BICA, centered around one of the most emblematic objects of Portuguese design: the Portuguese Chair – not in its original form, but in its contemporary reinvention created by BICAchair itself. An object that preserves the memory of Portuguese vernacular design, now reinterpreted and brought into the present.

A Work Seated in Mystery

Pedro Cabrita Reis, one of the central figures of contemporary Portuguese art, appropriated the Bica Chair and made it his own. Through direct interventions – sometimes subtle, sometimes raw – he created 25 unique pieces that cease to be simple furniture and become artistic statements.

Maintaining the formal integrity of the chair, Pedro Cabrita Reis drew on it using his own aesthetic language: gesture, construction, line, and sense of material. Each piece is numbered, signed, and certified, revealing the provocative simplicity that defines his work.

This special series represents the meeting of design and art, between the utilitarian and the symbolic – a confluence of material heritage and artistic act.
There are only 25 pieces, each one unique. An artistic gesture that inscribes itself into the most everyday object, transforming it into a work of art.
